PREPARATORY MUSICAL THEATRE
£35/month
FOR THE CURIOUS FIRST TIMERS

The curious minds of young children are let loose in these one hour sessions. Our youngest musical theatre members are introduced to acting, dancing and singing in a fun and caring environment. We love to give our little ones the chance to experience performing and engaging with theatre, but we are very careful not to put on too much pressure. It's really important to us that these early sessions ignite a life-long love of performing arts, so it's really important that they are fun.

We aim to give our Preps the opportunity to perform in two mini-showcases at our theatre each year. This gives them plenty of time to master songs and routines and gives parents the chance to see what their children have been up to.

Songs and dances are achievable and kept simple. Our music teaching principle is Kodály inspired and dance steps are from the basic IDTA repertoire. As Delivery Partners of the Derbyshire Music Education Hub , we work very hard to keep our teaching standards high and continually evaluate our practice and methods.

CLASS INFO

My little boy just loves coming to Musical Theatre. In the car on the way home, he tells me everything he's done, and every Wednesday, when I pick him up from school, he runs out to meet me, and is so excited about going to the Studios! Thank you for everything you do.

Preps work on a songs that are appropriate to their age and ability. Young voices have a limited range, so much of the material is drawn from well-known songs. Week by week, words and melodies are taught bit by bit without the need to be able to read. Tutors are supported by assistants who make sure each child's wellbeing is looked after. We know that joining a new group is daunting, but we take every care to ensure that new children settle in quickly and make lots of new friends. There's also a lot of fun time, playing games listening to stories dancing to fun music and generally letting off steam.

"The Preps Class is the highlight of our week! The  children are great. They're at that that wonderful age where they want to tell you all about their day at school, what their dog did, and who came for tea at the weekend. We chose to teach this class personally so our youngest members are taught by two of the Founders. We want to give them the best possible start, and welcome them into the Studios family. As they progress through our school, they will know us and we can watch them develop as performers before joining us again at secondary age. We are both parents and treat our youngest members as we would like our child to be treated in his extra-curricular activities"
