The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace
by Karl Jenkins

The Rose Choir is performing Karl Jenkins' popular choral work, The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace.

We made the decision to  perform the Armed Man at the end of last year, but in light of the recent crisis in Ukraine, we have decided to make this a performance in aid of the UNICEF Ukraine Appeal and we'd love to open it up to singers who might like to join us for this performance.

Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings 7.30pm - 9.30pm at Chesterfield Studios. Singers of all abilities are welcome to join, whether you have sung this work before or not. You can bring your own score, or use one of ours.

If you would like to practice at home, in addition to the weekly rehearsals, we have online resources which can help you.

The performance will take place at Chesterfield Parish Church on Saturday 9th July at 7.30pm, with a rehearsal in the afternoon.

If you would like to take part, please email the Choir Secretary, Sarah Menzies

The Rose Choir is a sociable, friendly choir that aims to include new members quickly into the group. We have enjoyable rehearsals and aim for a good standard of performance. We want everyone to enjoy the rehearsals and take part to the best of their ability.

"I started the choir back in 2014. From small beginnings, we now have in excess of fifty singers who work hard to gain a quality performance. I love the challenge of directing a mixed ability group that includes everything from school music teachers to members who joined having never sung in a choir before. It is my belief that singing is for everyone and the Rose Choir really does offer that. So if you are an experienced singer or mildly curious, please do come and give it a go!"

Jonathan trained at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance. He began his career as an assistant director for ITV  before working as a  theatre director in London as well as major theatres in the south east. He is holder of a distinction in Musicianship from the British Kodály Academy and has been musical director for over a hundred musicals. Jonathan conducts all major Chesterfield Studios performances and leads the Studios adult choir.
